Revitalized E911 Authority to Oversee Lake County Dispatch Services

This month, a revitalized Lake County E911 Authority (E911 Authority) convened to chart a path for enhanced coordination of emergency dispatch services across the County. The prior E911 board went dormant over the last few years due to staffing changes and the pandemic. However recently the E911 Authority was recreated through an intergovernmental agreement between Lake County, the City of Leadville, and St. Vincent General Hospital District (SVGHD). Their goals are to enhance existing 911 and dispatch services for all first responding agencies, while increasing communication and coordination.

Dispatch services in Lake County were previously overseen by the Sheriff’s Office, though multiple agencies use the service. With the renewed formation of the E911 Authority, 911 Dispatch services will now be overseen by the E911 Authority.

The renewed E911 Authority’s inaugural meeting occurred November 8, 2023. As part of the agenda, the E911 Authority elected officers for the coming year:

  • Board Chair: Sheriff Speckman (Lake County Sheriff)
  • Vice Chair: Chief Dailey (Leadville/ Lake County Fire Rescue)
  • Secretary: Director Grantham (Saint Vincent General Hospital District Ambulance Services)
  • Treasurer: Director Skeen (Lake County Office of Emergency Management)
  • Member at Large: TBD (Leadville Police Department)

E911 Authority Meeting Schedule

The next E911 Authority meeting will be a budget work session set for December 8th at 9:00 a.m. at the County Courthouse. Their next regular meeting will occur on December 1, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at City Hall.

Members of the public are welcome to attend E911 Authority meetings, and can learn more about the authority’s work and goals, review upcoming agendas, or read past minutes on the Lake County website.
