(Lake County, CO – August 23, 2023)   Yesterday, the Lake County Board of County Commissioners voted to extend the existing Moratorium on Short Term Rental Licenses for 6 more months - until February 28, 2024. The youtube video of the BOCC meeting may be viewed here and the meeting minutes will be available in the coming two weeks.

The Short Term Rental Moratorium was initially created September 1, 2022 to enable County staff to evaluate the impacts that Short Term Rentals have on Lake County’s economy, environment, long term housing stock, and community character. Staff research will result in policy recommendations for Short Term Rentals going forward.

Short Term Rental license holders currently in good standing will be allowed to renew their license for 2024. Community Planning and Development will send out renewal notices at the end of 2023.  We are not accepting applications from new or expired license holders during this time.

CPD and hired consultants will draft policy recommendations based on their research, and bring those to the public for feedback at the end of 2023. Once they receive community feedback, the recommendations will be updated and brought to the BOCC before February 28, 2024.

Following the BOCC decision regarding the Short Term Rental policies, CPD will release the approved guidelines which will inform the public of the new short term rental licensing process.

We appreciate community feedback to help inform future policies. Please provide feedback via this form.
