The Upper Arkansas River is vital to our way of life in Lake County. It provides water to local ranches, sustains wildlife and wild places, and creates tourist dollars by providing world class fishing to sportsmen and exciting rafting experiences. There was a time when the Arkansas river was not such a pristine waterway. Due to heavy mining in the area the waters were riddled with heavy metals that endangered fish, wildlife, and soils. Today if you enjoy the use of the Upper Arkansas River you can thank the Upper Arkansas River Restoration Project.
The LCCD and the Upper Arkansas River Restoration Project have been partners in efforts to conserve Lake County resources since the latter's conception. We continue to work together and support the efforts of the Upper Arkansas River Restoration Project.
