Building Code Adoption & Resolution

Intent

The Board of Review is proposing to adopt a new Resolution for building codes. This is an adoption of the 2018 ICC (International Code Council) Reference Codes with amendments. The Board is hoping that this resolution will continue Lake County's excellent building practices, keep our practices inline with the building community as a whole, and provide continued safety to our community.

Draft Resolution, Policies & 2018 Reference Codes

How it Works

Our Resolution adopts the 2018 ICC reference codes. The resolution also outlines any changes or amendments to the adopted codes that the Board of Review believes are needed. We also include the forms that we utilize, the fees we are adopting, and you would utilize both the Resolution and the reference code to build in Lake County.

Timelines

The Board of Review is sending this resolution to the Board of County Commissioner for the June 6 meeting. The Code, if approved, would be effective at that time.

The City will be following a slightly different Ordinance procedure and we are hoping to have the new code adopted by June 30.

The contractor education requirements will not be implemented until November 2022.

Education

The Building Department is working closely with Shums Coda to help provide energy education at a low or free cost.
